Woodenbox With A Fistful of Fivers: 4 March

Woodenbox With A Fistful Of Fivers

Over the past year, this uniquely named Scottish sextet have built up a reputation the old fashioned way, by honing their sound through successive single releases and raucous live shows. This has led to airplay across BBC stations and a session on 6Music.

The band deftly fuse rollicking folk songs, led by Ali Downer’s Scots brogue, with evocative Mariachi horns that sound like they were lifted from a Sergio Leone film. Influenced by artists as diverse as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and King Creosote, they are definitely a band in ascendence.

Young Runaways

Young Runaways found inspiration in the meticulous arrangements of Beirut and the bombast of Arcade Fire, their six-strong lineup delivering songs that are heartfelt and powerful. One of the most promising new bands to come out of the West Midlands in a long time.
