Colour & 7Inch Cinema Present Flatpack Film Festival Closedown Party
We’re very happy to announce that we will be co-hosting the closedown party for this year’s Flatpack Film Festival. It takes place across some of Birmingham’s best venues, including The Electric Cinema, The Custard Factory and The Victoria, between 11-15 March. Back for the third time, the innovative and frontier-challenging festival promises “animation, music films, live scores, shorts, archive treasures, street art, flipbooks, independent movies, latenight horror, installations, talks and shindigs”.
The Closedown Party will take place on Sunday 15 at Floodgate Kino in the Wild Building, Digbeth. 7Inch are bringing Colour regulars July Skies to the table, while we’ve asked our favourite boy-girl electro pop duo Victoria and Jacob to return and blow everyone one away once again. We’ll also be DJing the finest cross-genre left field and independent music around and there will be live visuals accompanying the music.
We’ve always admired the way 7Inch Cinema go about their business so it’s a real honour to be asked to participate. The full festival lineup can be viewed here.

July Skies
If you’re ever in doubt about the immersive power of music, listen to July Skies‘ The Weather Clock on headphones. Antony Harding’s compositions unfurl gradually, revealing subtle shades and details like a time-lapse video of a countryside scene in the emerging light of dawn. Harding works as a town planner in Solihull and The Weather Clock’s artwork shows a preoccupation with mid-20th Century architecture and its relationship with its setting. This is reflected in electric guitar taking centre stage but played in a delicate, organic way, the divide between man-made and the natural blurring magnificently.
Victoria & Jacob
Victoria and Jacob make disarming, upbeat electro-pop played and sung with real passion. Layers of warm laptop fuzz are overlaid with toy instruments, glockenspiel and guitar, all complimenting Victoria’s delicate but feisty vocals. This Cambridge based duo are sure to charm anyone who fell for the Postal Service’s Give Up. Their single ‘Clash’, from the Super Computer EP, has received airplay on BBC 6Music and we wouldn’t be surprised if big things lie ahead for them.
Floodgate Kino
A warehouse in Digbeth’s Wild Buildings is being transformed into a picturehouse for Flatpack Festival. Here’s how to get there:
